Just a dad supporting his daughter.

I’m doing this run for my 9 year old daughter who was up until recently was diagnosed with Autism. 

Our autism journey hasn’t been an easy one, we noticed some signs when she was around 2 years old sensory issues more than anything with clothing, loud noises, showers etc. 

We spoke to many professionals within nursery/school settings who bashed our worries off as her being a ‘shy’ child. We finally began the process when my daughter turned 5 years old through our GP which we had to fight for ourselves. 

Fast forward 4 years later we finally got her diagnosis so she could finally be able to access the help and support she ever so desperately needs to help her through daily life. 

Upon receiving my daughters diagnosis we have come to realise what little support there is inside and outside of the school/nursery settings and how many people struggle to understand how autism can affect children’s and adults daily life style. I’m doing my run for autism to hopefully raise as much money as I can (please donate only if you can afford too every little penny helps!) to hopefully be able raise some ever so needed funds for the children and adults who struggle with the difficulties Autism brings to there lives. 

Now I’m a 33 year old sofa dad and exercise isn’t my strong point but I’m challenging myself to run this for my daughter and spread awareness in the process.

Run for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

I'll be running 40Km in October to raise money for this fantastic charity!
