Laura & Louie-Jae

My Walk for Autism Challenge

Total 244,582 steps

My goal 10000 steps

Day 7 💚

another crazy busy day and another 3 mile walk while really swollen and sore feet, today is a real struggle after two long walks yesterday but we powered through and glad we did, however at much slower pace and not as far as we had intended however we met our required target. Despite being exhausted Louie-Jae made the effort to also do some litter picking to get a few extra steps in too!

We cant believe tomorrow is the last day for our annual event, in the 3 years we have been doing it this year has been the best one yet not only due to the beautiful weather we've had but because of the amazing support we've had and  you guys, our sponsors that have allowed us to smash our target beyond our wildest imaginations.

1 MORE DAY TO GO! LETS DO THIS!

Day 6 💚

Today consisted of 2 walks totaling over 7 miles, the second walk home from school was incredibly special as some of Louie-Jae's friends and family wanted to support and partake in his walking event with him.

On the 2,7 mile walk he explained about his autism, how it makes him feel, why he enjoys the river Freshney and why its important he does this event. Louie-jae also talked to some dog walkers whom praised him for his efforts an gave him and his friends some bread to feed the ducks.

we cant thank his friends and family members for their incredible support it means the absolute world to us.

( * Children's parents have given me permission to photos of them on our fundraising page)

Day 5 💚

Only a small 3 mile today again along the Freshney, Louie-Jae was a extremely tired so thought it was best he had a rest day. He was gutted he couldn't do the steps himself but with his hypermobility issues ( or jelly joints as he calls it!)  He was just into much pain so mum volunteered to step in to ensure he hit his marker.

Day 4 💚

No major walks done today as Louie-Jae almost hit his 10,000 steps count in just hour of football, however we did spend the the whole day clearing and cleaning the gardens ready for summer, clocking up over 13,000 steps which he celebrated by going for a ice cream down the seafront

Day 3 💚

Todays adventures included a long walk around the Freshney, which is Louie-Jaes favorite place to walk to unwind after school to bird watch, look for different flowers and listen to the bird song along with an impromptu photoshoot!

Day 2 💚

lovely afternoon walk around the river Freshney, not a very long walk today with having very sore feet but 11,000 steps walked and meeting our daily target.

Day 1 💚

4.5 mile walk complete including popped blisters and swollen feet but worth every bit of pain. Overall over 17,000 steps completed on day 1 alone ( for some readon step counter on page hasnt updated as of yet)....now time to soak my feet and sooth my achy bones! Louie-Jae enjoyed putting in his steps with a hour of football, running round the garden  and doing star jumps.

1st practice walk (17/02/25)

Today Louie-Jae did his first practice walk around the river Freshney, a place very close to our hearts. It's the place our dog loved to walk and we sadly lost him in January so he thought walking this route in memory of his best friend would be a nice way to honour his memory as its the first year he's not walking with him.

Louie-Jae clocked up over an impressive 5300 steps as well as feeding ducks and getting covered in mud! Overall he's happy with day 1 of his training 🚶‍♂️ 🦆

ME AND MY MUMMY ARE WALKING FOR OTHERS LIKE MYSELF WITH AUTISM

Louie-Jae is an energetic, kind, honest and caring soul who enjoys his football, dancing and singing and is a bundle of energy and was diagnosed   with autism in February 2024 after a 5 year battle.

Louie-Jae has Sensory processing disorder (SPD) which means his brain has trouble processing information from his senses like sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste, causing him to react too strongly or not enough to everyday things like loud noises, bright lights, or certain textures, making it hard to manage daily activities; essentially, his brain is having trouble filtering out sensory information, making it overwhelming sometimes.

Key points about SPD:

  • Over- or under-sensitive: People with SPD can be either overly sensitive to certain stimuli (like loud noises) or not sensitive enough (like not noticing someone touching them).

  • Impacts daily life: These sensory issues can make everyday activities like dressing, eating, or playing difficult.

  • Not just one sense: SPD can affect one sense or multiple senses at once.

Examples of sensory processing challenges:

  • Over-sensitive:
Feeling overwhelmed by loud crowds, bright lights, itchy clothes, or certain food textures.

  • Under-sensitive:
Not noticing pain, needing extra pressure to feel touch, or seeking out intense sensory experiences like spinning.

Nothing holds Louie-Jae back so once he heard about this event he wanted to partake to help raise awareness of his condition while raising funds for others like himself. 2025 marks his 3rd year of doing this fabulous event and aims to raise £125 by taking several adventures over 8 days which we will be documenting on this page.

Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

Louie-Jae ands his mum Laura will be walking a total of 10,000 steps a day 26th March and 2nd April to raise money for this charity.

We hope you can help support Louie-Jae with his fundraising and help him smash his target, any donation big or small is greatly appreciated 🙂
