We're walking for our son Dominic
Our Team is stepping up to Walk for Autism to show how much we care about autism.
We will be cheering each other on in our team to walk 10,000 steps every day for 8 days. We are committed to raising much needed funds to support autistic children and adults in the UK and Ireland and also help to spread autism acceptance and understanding.
We are walking for our son Dominic who is 3 years old but will be 4 years old in April this year. He is autistic and has severe learning disabilities and difficulties. He needs around the clock 24/7 hours care. He also has a sleep disorder called RMD (rhythmic movement disorder) which is heart breaking to watch at times but nothing I can do for him but let him be. He's such a happy little boy, funny character at times but with autism comes aggression so we also have bad days often. It's not all sunshine and rainbows like most think or a walk in the park. Being a SEN parent is hard but it is very rewarding. Dominic is also nonverbal and has no danger awareness. He is very limited to what he eats too so he is under a dietician. He's under so many specialists for different things which is amazing for him to have the support I'm place. We've had a long fight on our hands and we still have to get as far as we have to get the right help he needs and still needs and we will keep fighting for him because we are his biggest advocates and voices!
Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every person on the autism spectrum has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.
