I’m raising funds for autism! Please sponsor me today! I’m taking part in the Walk for Autism challenge. I’ll be walking 10,000 steps a day from 26 March to 2 April. Please sponsor me. Anything helps . Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every person on the autism spectrum has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.
My son Jacob began displaying autistic traits before his second birthday. It took 8 years to receive his formal diagnosis (at age 10) and for the support that comes with this to become available to him.
However, the funding for this support is so immensely overstretched that waiting lists are years long, groups and outreach activities are minimal and donations towards not just research, but support, is so very greatly needed to support our young people, teenagers and adults navigating lives with autism.
Jacob is truly an inspirational boy and watching him navigating his way through a world where his understanding is so different to others is (while at times deeply emotional) beyond incredibly inspirational. It is an honour to walk to support him, and many others, on their autism journey.
