I'm walking 10,000 steps a day from 26th March - 2nd April for my little boy Sebastian
I have an amazing son called Sebastian, who will be 4 in May. Seb, is a very happy child and loves life; he is a whizz with his kindle and an expert climber! His infectious laugh and mischievous ways light up any room. He loves rockets, planes, PJ masks, cuddles and jumping in puddles.
Seb also has autism and is non-verbal. He has
taught our family and friends to look at the world in a completely different
way and to enjoy the beauty of simple things, and that love genuinely needs no
words.
Unfortunately, we’ve had to fight hard to get the support that Seb needs to make the world a safe and fun place for him. Seb can’t communicate easily when he is in pain, sad, angry or feeling unwell, which is heartbreaking as a parent.
The current support system is run by amazingly passionate people who are overwhelmed, underfunded, and struggling to meet demand. The wait time in the North West for diagnosis is 3.5 years, we are currently on a 2 year wait for Speech Therapy and the battle to ensure a child is placed in the right education setting is exhausting for parents.
This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week. I am raising money for Walk for Autism with an aim to ease this fight for others going forward, and to raise awareness about this form of neurodiversity.
Every day for a week I will run/walk 10,000 steps, between 26th March and 2nd April. We all know how difficult this can be to achieve when you work in a desk job! If you are able to make a small contribution to raise money and awareness for Autism that would be amazing.
