Memphis ~ Rose

I thought seeing as I am spamming folk out I would explain the reason behind WHY I am walking for Autism and WHY it means so much to me…
When Memphis was a mear 15 months old she underwent major surgery for Hip Dysplasia, up until then she was reaching all milestones or so we thought. She spent 12 long weeks in a body cast but adapted amazingly. When she was 2 we decided to put her in to a setting as her speech seemed to have regressed. It was from there that we realised that Memphis would never fit in with the “normal” kids. She kept herself to herself having no interest in group activities and had regular meltdowns. In 2019 she finally saw a paediatric doctor who told us she was Autistic but we had to follow the route, a route that took us 2 years 10 months to get a diagnosis. On 23/12/21 Memphis received her final formal diagnosis. As much as it upset her being labelled “Autistic” it was a relief that what she was going through was normal for her! Due to Memphis and her autism we have all had to adjust. Adjust to the fact that she doesn’t get invited anywhere or included, adjust to the fact that folk do not invite her because she is unique, adjust to the fact that us as a family get left out because ”they don’t get it”
THERE IS NO CURE FOR AUTISM and there are far to many who don’t actually understand or ”get it”. It’s time more AWARENESS was put out there!
This is why I am joining in #walkforautism
