Going the distance

I'm not very good at 'blog' posts,  rambling out the thoughts in my head for others to read.  But here goes. 

I'm walking for Autism to help raise funds and awareness for those who are 'high functioning' / level one /atypical or whatever it's called now.  To help those like mads who are just 'a little off', ' a little quirky'  or 'just the way they are' ..  I feel she walks a delicate line that she doesn't know exists in her black and white world of moral justice and right. 

The rules are the rules, truths are truths but we don't operate in the world of black and white. We're grey and off white, we're murky and rules aren't always rules but suggestions and guidelines that move without warning. 

She masks all day and explodes at night, very much the shaken bottle of pop,  an incident at school, a comment by a teenager who thinks they're smart to swear at children in a play ground asking for the ball back. A failed competition, pressure of a show. I'm her safe place, her fortress of solitude. I'm walking because I want and need her to know that whilst I don't understand her world I support her and I'll always support her. 

I'm learning on my journey, one hour, one day at a time.

Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

I'll be walking a total of 10,000 steps a day 26th March and 2nd April to raise money for this charity.
